4-Day Itinerary — Day by Day
Day 1
Kampala / Entebbe → Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Early morning departure southwest through Uganda's spectacular landscapes. Drive through Fort Portal's tea estates, the equator crossing, and the dramatic Kigezi highlands. Arrive Bwindi late afternoon. Trek briefing with your guide over dinner. Overnight at Bwindi lodge — gorilla forest canopy above you, mist rolling through the valleys.
Day 2
GORILLA TREK DAY — 1 Hour with Mountain Gorillas + Batwa Cultural Walk
7:30am park headquarters briefing. Set off into Bwindi's ancient forest with rangers, trackers, and your guide. Find your gorilla family — spend 60 unforgettable minutes watching them live their lives at close range. Silverback, infants, mothers nursing, juveniles playing. A full hour with 400kg animals who treat you as part of their landscape. Return to lodge for a celebratory lunch. Afternoon: Batwa forest walk with indigenous community guides — honey gathering, traditional fire-making, forest plant knowledge, and storytelling. Overnight Bwindi.
Day 3
Bwindi → Lake Bunyonyi — The Most Beautiful Lake in Africa
Morning forest walk in Bwindi's buffer zone. After breakfast, drive 1.5 hours to Lake Bunyonyi — a deep crater lake at 1,962m altitude, surrounded by terraced hillsides, with 29 islands rising from the mirror-calm water. Check in to your island or lakeside lodge. Afternoon: Canoe across to a neighbouring island, swim in the warm lake water, watch the sun set behind the hills. Birdsong fills the valley. This is Uganda at its most serene. Dinner by the lake.
Day 4
Lake Bunyonyi Morning → Return to Entebbe / Kampala
Breakfast on your veranda above the lake. Optional morning kayak or village walk on the nearest island before departure. Drive north through Kabale and the beautiful Kigezi highlands back to Kampala or Entebbe. Arrive by evening. Flight connections: book 8pm or later.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why add Lake Bunyonyi to the gorilla trek?
The gorilla trek is an intense, early-morning physical experience — Lake Bunyonyi is the perfect emotional and physical recovery. The combination of forest intensity followed by lake serenity creates a complete Uganda experience. Most first-time visitors say Lake Bunyonyi was a highlight they weren't expecting. It's also a stunning photography location.
Where do we stay at Lake Bunyonyi?
We match accommodation to your budget. Budget: Byoona Amagara Island retreat (rustic island bandas) or Bunyonyi Rock Resort (lake views). Mid-range: Bird's Nest Resort or Arcadia Cottages (excellent lakeside lodges). Luxury: Bwama Island cottages or private island rentals. All options include canoe use.
Can I extend at Lake Bunyonyi?
Absolutely — Lake Bunyonyi is one of Uganda's most relaxing stops. We recommend at least 2 nights, which this package includes. You can add a 3rd night at a modest supplement. Kayaking, community walks, pottery classes, and fishing village visits are all available.
"Gorilla trekking permits are strictly limited — only 8 visitors per gorilla family per day. Peak season (June–September) sells out months in advance. Start your Roam Beyond payment plan now to secure your date."
