Frequently Asked Questions — Wildlife Safaris Uganda
Does Uganda have the Big 5?
Yes. Uganda is home to all Big 5 species: lion, elephant, African buffalo, leopard, and rhinoceros. White rhino were reintroduced at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, where you can track them on foot. Lion, elephant, and buffalo are found in Murchison Falls and Queen Elizabeth NPs. Leopard are present across multiple parks. Our Big 5 circuit package covers all of them.
What is the best park in Uganda for game drives?
Murchison Falls National Park is Uganda's largest and most diverse park for classic game drives — lion, elephant, giraffe, buffalo, and hippo are all regularly seen. For tree-climbing lions (unique in East Africa), Queen Elizabeth's Ishasha Sector is essential. For remote, crowd-free wilderness, Kidepo Valley is exceptional.
What is the best time for a Uganda wildlife safari?
The dry seasons (June–September and December–February) offer the easiest wildlife viewing as animals concentrate around water sources. However, Uganda's national parks are excellent year-round. The green season brings lush scenery, fewer tourists, and lower prices — and wildlife is still abundant. We recommend avoiding April as this is the height of the long rains.
