Itinerary — Day by Day
Day 1
Kampala → Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary → Murchison Falls NP
Drive north. Stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary — children will never forget their first rhino on foot. Continue to Murchison. Afternoon game drive on arrival. Children's wildlife briefing from guide over dinner.
Day 2
Murchison — Full Safari Day: Game Drive + Nile Cruise
Dawn game drive — giraffe, elephant, lion. The children's guide explains animal behaviour, tracks, and ecology throughout. Afternoon: Nile launch cruise — the hippos and crocodiles at close range from a boat are unforgettable for children. Falls viewpoint on the way back.
Day 3
Murchison — Shoebill Search + Village Visit + Nature Walk
Morning: shoebill stork search in the Nile delta (one of the most extraordinary birds in Africa). Afternoon: guided walk through the Rabongo Forest on Murchison's southern bank — red colobus monkeys, forest birding, chimpanzee sounds (Budongo Forest nearby). Optional: local community village visit.
Day 4
Murchison → Lake Mburo NP (420 km via Kampala area)
Long transfer day south to Lake Mburo. Your guide makes it educational — stops at the equator crossing (experiments with water and the Coriolis effect), a roadside craft market, and a local Ankole cattle farm to see the famous long-horned cattle. Arrive Lake Mburo for evening game drive.
Day 5
Lake Mburo — Horse Riding + Boat Safari + Walking
Morning: Horse Riding Safari. This is the children's favourite — riding through the acacia woodland alongside zebra and impala. Helmets provided, patient horses, guides at all times. Age 7+. A 1-hour ride. Afternoon: Lake Boat Ride. Hippos, crocodiles, fish eagles, and the gentle rhythm of the lake. Perfect for younger children. Followed by a guided walking safari with armed ranger — tracking fresh footprints and observing insects, birds, and small mammals.
Day 6
Lake Mburo → Return Kampala / Entebbe (230 km)
Morning game drive — zebra, impala, and the resident lake hippos. Depart by 10am. Arrive Kampala by 2pm. The guide presents each child with a personalised wildlife checklist of everything they saw.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the minimum age for each activity?
Game drives: age 5+. Boat rides (Lake Mburo + Nile cruise): all ages. Horse riding: age 7+. Rhino tracking on foot: age 12+. Guided nature walks: all ages. Chimp tracking (not on this package): age 15+. Gorilla trekking (not on this package): age 15+. We tailor the pace and content of every activity to the ages of your children.
Is Uganda safe for families with children?
Yes. Uganda is consistently rated as one of East Africa's safest tourism destinations. The national parks are well-managed by UWA. Our vehicles are well-maintained and we carry first aid kits. We have a 24/7 emergency contact team. Kampala has good private hospitals if needed. Most families with children describe Uganda as feeling remarkably safe and welcoming.
Can we add gorilla trekking for older children?
Yes — gorilla trekking (minimum age 15) can be added as a 3-day extension before or after this circuit. Bwindi is approximately 3.5 hours from Lake Mburo. Parents can trek while children 15+ are included. For families with younger children, we recommend waiting until children are 15 and returning for the gorilla experience — Uganda rewards return visits.
"Uganda's wildlife parks are among Africa's most diverse and least crowded safari destinations. From tree-climbing lions to the prehistoric Shoebill, from the world's most powerful waterfall to the Great Migration — your safari is waiting. Start your Roam Beyond payment plan today."
