Sipi Falls Hiking & Coffee Experience
2 Days · Three Waterfalls · Abseil 100m · Ugandan Coffee Farm

"Sipi Falls on the slopes of Mount Elgon is one of Uganda's most beautiful natural settings — three tiered waterfalls cascading off an ancient volcanic escarpment into the valley below. You'll hike all three, abseil the 100-metre main cascade alongside the water, tour a working Ugandan coffee farm from cherry to cup, and spend time with the Sabei people in one of eastern Uganda's most welcoming cultural communities. The perfect Ugandan weekend."

Three Sipi Falls hikes · 100m abseil alongside the main cascade · Uganda coffee farm walk and tasting · Sabei tribe cultural experience · Elgon highland views
Itinerary — Day by Day
Day 1
Kampala → Sipi Falls (280km) + Waterfalls Hike + Coffee Farm
Depart Kampala by 7:00am. Drive east through Jinja, Mbale, and up the winding road onto the Elgon escarpment (280km, approx. 4 hours). The altitude change is dramatic — from the hot Kampala basin to the cool, mist-wrapped highlands of Kapchorwa. Afternoon: Three Waterfalls Hike. Your guide leads you to all three Sipi Falls — the lower falls through a forest trail, the middle falls across volcanic rock, and the magnificent upper falls (100m main cascade) at the escarpment edge. The views from the top over the valley and across to Kenya are extraordinary. Late Afternoon: Coffee Farm Walk. Sipi sits in the most important Arabica coffee growing zone in Uganda — Mt. Elgon Arabica is exported to Starbucks and specialty roasters worldwide. Your farm guide walks you through the entire process: picking red cherries from the trees, wet-pulping, fermenting, washing, sun-drying on raised beds, hulling, and roasting. The cup at the end — made from beans you picked an hour earlier — is remarkable. Overnight at your Sipi lodge with direct waterfall views.
Day 2
THE ABSEIL + Sabei Culture → Return Kampala (310km)
Morning: The 100m Abseil. Your ropes team sets up the descent at the top of Sipi's main waterfall. Step backwards over the edge of the escarpment — the valley is 100 metres below you, the waterfall thundering beside you. Descend the rock face through the spray. At the bottom, turn and look up at the full cascade from behind the curtain of water. This is genuinely extraordinary. Mid-Morning: Sabei Cultural Experience. The Sabei people of Kapchorwa are highland farmers with a rich cultural tradition — most famous for their biannual circumcision ceremony (Imbalu), which draws thousands of participants and observers from across eastern Uganda. Your cultural guide introduces you to Sabei homestead life, traditional food preparation, honey harvesting, and the stories of the mountain. Depart Sipi by 1pm. Return to Kampala (310km, approx. 4 hours). Arrive by 5pm.

Frequently Asked Questions
How hard is the waterfall hiking?
The three-falls hike involves some steep sections on rocky and occasionally slippery terrain — sturdy footwear is essential. Total hiking time is approximately 3–4 hours for all three falls. The terrain is manageable for anyone with reasonable fitness and no knee problems. Your guide sets the pace and assists on difficult sections.
Can children do the abseil?
The abseil is suitable for children from approximately age 12 (younger with guide assessment). Children must be comfortable with heights and able to follow instructions precisely. All children must be accompanied and the ropes team will make the final assessment on the day. The hike to all three falls is suitable for children of all ages.
Can I combine Sipi with Mount Elgon?
Yes — our A-03 package (4 days, $1,500) combines Sipi Falls with a Mount Elgon summit trek. If you want both, A-03 is the better choice. A-07 is for those who want the Sipi experience specifically — the falls, abseil, coffee, and culture — without the mountain trekking component.
"Uganda's adventure scene is extraordinary — and most visitors never discover half of it. From Grade 5 Nile rapids to equatorial mountain summits, from canyon swims to gorilla treks, this country rewards the curious traveller. Start your Roam Beyond payment plan today."
